Grand Finale of Poetry by Heart
Congratulations to Nifemi 10P who has become a National Champion in her age group for Poetry by Heart 2024.
On Monday 1st July, Nifemi entered the final and most demanding round of the national poetry recitation competition. She represented DGGS in the Classic KS4 category where students are required to memorise and recite two poems (one written pre-1914 one post-1914) in front of the judges who are all prestigious poets.
This year, Daljit Nagra, Patience Agbabi and Liz Berry were responsible for deciding the fate of the 10 KS4 finalists who performed in the Sam Wanamaker theatre at the Globe in London. The standard was incredibly high but Nifemi’s stunning performance of Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti won them over and their decision was unanimous.
Nifemi was presented with a trophy from competition director Dr Julie Blake on the main stage at the Globe and later celebrated her success with her family.
As a school, we are delighted and very proud of her achievement. Hugely well deserved.
