House Visits

Chartwell

7C enjoyed their visit to the Chartwell house and walking around their beautiful gardens. They got to meet some chickens and very elegant black swans.

Hever

7H had a wonderful time exploring Hever Castle. As well as learning about the history of Anne Boleyn's family home, including the chance to view the newly restored rooms and revisiting some Tudor history from primary school, they explored the beautiful grounds of Hever. Everyone had great fun in the playground and they finished with a trip to the Yew Maze. All students were an absolute credit to the school throughout the whole day and it was a pleasure to escort them. In particular, it was fantastic to see new friendships being made and bonds being formed. It was a special day and they all created memories they will carry with them throughout their DGGS journey. 

Ightham

7I had a great time visiting Ightham Mote and getting to know each other!  Everyone had a great time and staff commented on how excellently they were during the trip.

Knole

7K had an amazing time on their House Trip to Knole House, where they had the unique experience of trying on Tudor outfits and discovering all the layers that went into traditional clothing. They also enjoyed a fascinating tour of the house, learning about the Sackville family and their rich history. The students were especially intrigued by the family’s heraldry, featuring the striking symbol of the snow leopard. It was a fun and educational day for all!  

Leeds

7L enjoyed a lovely day at Leeds Castle. They spent time in the house itself having a good look around and also enjoyed visiting the gardens. They particularly enjoyed seeing the birds of prey.

Penshurst

7P and staff thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Penshurst House this week despite the rain. The staff were very helpful and were happy to tell us all about the house's fascinating history. Our students particularly enjoyed walking in the same corridor where Harry Potter was filmed! We enjoyed learning about the marvellous mix of paintings, tapestries and furniture from the 15th,16th and17th centuries, with a unique medieval Baron's Hall and decadent staterooms. The 11 acres of Elizabethan walled gardens were absolutely stunning as they are planted to give a succession of colour as the seasons change. There is also an Adventure Playground and Woodland Trails where you can find out more about woodland habitats. We enjoyed visiting the toy museum, gift shop and pantry café. A great time was had by all!
