On Friday the 20th June, Year 12 Students visited the national gallery in London to see José María Velasco’s new exhibition, the first in the UK! Students saw lots of different realistic landscapes, for example Lake Chalco, which showcased Mexico’s ever-changing culture and heritage. After looking around the gallery, they came across Velázquez, a famous Spanish artist that Year 12 learnt about in class and viewed his portraits, for example, ‘The immaculate conception’. Later on, we went to a Mexican Restaurant called Wahaca and enjoyed different national dishes like guacamole and nachos, gambas aguachile, baja tacos and tacos de pollo. The whole day students were not allowed to speak in English, and so had all of their conversations in Spanish; this was a great test of their speaking skills! This trip was a valuable learning experience, immersing into Hispanic culture.
