Dartford Grammar School for Girls

Year 7 Own Clothes Day

This was an idea from two Year 7 students, Channelle and Morolake. Their comments on the day are below:

Throwback day is an American high school tradition where students come to school in their own clothes in the theme of the 90s and 00s. Throwback day allows students to express themselves creatively, have fun and most of all demonstrate how they thought fashion would have been during this time frame. We chose JDRF as our charity because we feel like type 1 diabetes is not spoken about enough and not enough awareness is spread about it. A few students in Year 7 are directly impacted by it, so it was a topical choice. Students each brought in £1 and all proceeds will go to the JDRF charity. We were really inspired by social media and thought it would be a great opportunity for all Year 7 students. Throwback day was a major success and Year 7 students were able to raise £180 for JDRF. Students outfits were amazing and completely on theme. We really want to thank the school for making the idea a reality and to all of Year 7 for embracing the idea.
